Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to put a hand stamp on those who have been advised to undergo self-quarantine at their homes. BMC has even coined an interesting name for same - Badge of Honor. According to them, this will serve as a constant reminder, for the person to be in isolation for 14 days. In addition, people can easily spot this and remind anyone with a badge to return home and follow the instructions given.

The ink in the stamp used is one used during elections so it cannot be removed with a regular water and soap.

The people who have travelled from a foreign country have been advised to undergo self-quarantine for COVID-19 to prevent the spread of the diseases in public.

The self-quarantine period is recommended for a person who is at risk of containing the infection even though the person doesn’t have the symptoms. It is a precautionary measure suggested to people with a travel history during the coronavirus outbreak.

528 people have been advised self-quarantine till March 15. The BMC will be monitoring the symptoms of people who are supposed to self-quarantine for 14 days.

This comes after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday said that this decision is being taken to “instil a sense of responsibility” among them.

Maharashtra Government has decided that people undergoing self-quarantine or home quarantine for COVID-19 will be stamped on their left hand. This is being done to identify them easily in case they mingle with the general public.

CM Uddhav Thackeray appealed the people undergoing self-quarantine for suspected exposure to coronavirus to voluntarily refrain from going out in order to prevent any risk to others.

As this happened, BMC Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi issued an order to all officials at hospitals and the airport asking them to ‘stamp’ the concerned people. The ink on the palm will last for several days given the time frame for self-quarantine as 14 days.

The Maharashtra government has made it a punishable offence for any person to evade the compulsory quarantine. If the person breaks the home quarantine, the state government will forcibly move such person to a government isolation facility.

In Maharashtra, 39 coronavirus infected cases have been tested positive. On Tuesday, Maharashtra recorded its first death due to COVID-19.
