Coronavirus Pandemic: Kalyan man who tested positive had attended wedding in Solapur

A man from Kalyan who recently tested for coronavirus has sent the Kalyan and Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in a state of frenzy as he travelled to Solapur by train to attend a wedding. Following which, a special team has been put together to track all those who came in contact with the patient, who was earlier admitted at Mumbai's Kasturba hospital.

According to the officials, he may have come in contact with nearly 1,000 people, but the examinations did not show anyone having any symptoms so far. Till date, Kalyan has reported three patients who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus which has sent the world in a state of partial lockdown.

According to the KDMC, the Kalyan resident returned to Mumbai from the United States of America on March 6, 2020. Once getting off at the airport, he took a taxi to Kalyan. The same evening, he boarded the Hutatma Express to Solapur, to attend a relative’s wedding.

The KDMC, as a precautionary measure, has issued a letter to the district collectors of Solapur and Pune, informing them about the patient’s travel history. The authorities have been asked to track down all those who may have been in the cluster affected by this patient.

The patient had started showing symptoms of COVID-19 from March 9, and later he was tested for the coronavirus in Kasturba Hospital. His daughter and his wife have also tested positive. District collector of Solapur Milind Shambharkar told Hindustan Times, “Yes, we have received letter from KDMC and as per that we have formed special teams to track each and every person who came in contact with the infected person.” 

The district administration created 10 teams of five members each and with the help of village Talathi and Gramsevek, it is in the process of identifying all those who attended the wedding. So far, no one has reported symptoms and the search operations are ongoing.

Earlier, four Germany-returned passengers with 'home quarantine' stamp on their hands were de-boarded from the Bandra Terminus-Delhi Garibrath Express train at Palghar station. The youngsters were de-boarded around 100 km from Mumbai after the co-passengers raised an alarm. A Western Railway spokesperson said that the four passengers were de-boarded from coach number G4 and G5 of 12216 Garibrath at Palghar station when travel ticket examiner and co-passengers raised an alarm after seeing the stamp on their hands.
