Coronavirus Pandemic: Mumbai records over 200 cases for second day in a row

By the end of Tuesday (April 14), Maharashtra, for the second day straight recorded 350 new cases and Mumbai over 200. A day ago, Maharashtra had recorded 352 cases and Mumbai had registered 242.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Maharashtra has become the worst-affected state in the country. Despite the measures that are being taken by the authorities, the number of cases have been increasing daily. By the end of Tuesday (April 14), Maharashtra, for the second day straight recorded 350 new cases and Mumbai over 200. This has been the second-highest single-day count for the state and the city so far. The maximum number of cases in one day had been registered a day ago with Maharashtra recording 352 cases and Mumbai 242.

The total number of cases on Tuesday went up to 2,684 in the state whereas Mumbai's tally stood at 1,756. Maharashtra also reported 18 deaths on April 14, 11 of which were from Mumbai, the third-highest for the city and the state. Mumbai and Maharashtra had reported most deaths on April 12 (16) and April 9 (25) respectively.

Currently, the state has recorded 178 fatalities due to coronavirus, among which, 112 are from Mumbai. As of April 15, 6:13 pm, 2,862 people have been tested positive in Maharashtra, of which, 1,756 are from Mumbai. The city has already been termed as the hotspot for COVID-19. 

Earlier today, two Shivaji Park residents had tested positive, taking the total number of cases from Dadar to 21. Dadar along with the surrounding areas such as Worli, Prabhadevi, Mahim, which constitute the Northern part of Mumbai has been recording an increase in the number of cases. Worli alone has recorded nearly 20 per cent of the total cases in Mumbai.

The US seems to the worst impacted country at the moment. As per Reuters, the co coronavirus related deaths yesterday noted a single-day record 2,228 to top 28,300, according to a Reuters tally, as officials debated how to reopen the economy without reigniting the outbreak.
