A senior official from the state health department told Mid Day that the government will carry out a campaign for early detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer on March 8. Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan will lead the campaign.

Women who will visit the clinic will be trained to screen others in their homes and communities. The officials believe that this will help in early disease detection and increase survival rates. All hospital deans have been directed by the minister to send doctors to rural areas in their jurisdiction to conduct breast cancer screenings. Screening camps will be held in villages once a month. There is also a plan for mobile clinics.
