Coronavirus doubling rate in Mumbai drops from 84 days to 58 days

Coronavirus cases in the state have seen an increase, however, the number of cases in Mumbai has reduced in comparison to the previous months, and officials state that the spread is now under control. However, cases have seen a rise in selected areas across Mumbai and more number of patients have been identified over the last few days.

As of September 12, the number of cases in Mumbai reached 1,67,656 with 8109 deaths. The city, on Saturday, had more than 2300 cases in a single day. The data was revealed by the state health department.

Furthermore, the report released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shows that the doubling rate of coronavirus cases in the city has now become 58 days, and this has worsened the situation, as the data earlier was 84 days. This change has been observed since the last few days, as the number of corona patients in Mumbai have been increasing.

Maharashtra government announced the unlock 4.0 guidelines under which several services have resumed in the city. Owing to this, many leave their homes on a regular basis, and this could have increased the cases. Besides this, citizens have also been flouting the rules and not wearing masks or maintaining social distancing. 

The number of cases which increased by 700 in the first week of August, is now increasing by 2,000. Areas like Borivali, Goregaon, Dahisar, Mulund, Grant Road, Malabar Hill are affected with increasing cases. Areas like Malad, Borivali and Andheri has nearly ten thousand cases.

The growth rate in Mumbai currently stands at 1.20 per cent, and in the first eleven days of September, the city has seen more than 18,000 new cases. Furthermore, the number of patients undergoing treatment has gone beyond 27,000 and the total percentage of discharged cases has also gone up to 78 per cent.
