Mumbai witnesses improvement in doubling rate and growth rate of COVID-19 cases

Recently released report by the BMC has revealed that the doubling rate of coronavirus cases in Mumbai has improved, and the average is currently at 87 days. Furthermore, the growth rate has substantially decreased to 0.81 per cent.

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Mumbai has reduced over the last few weeks, and as per reports, the measures taken by Maharashtra Government along with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has worked well for the city.

Recently released report by the BMC has revealed that the doubling rate of coronavirus cases in Mumbai has improved, and the average is currently at 87 days. Furthermore, the growth rate has substantially decreased to 0.81 per cent. As of August 12, 2020, Mumbai had a total over 1.26 lakh cases out of which one lakh patients were treated and discharged successfully. Around 6,940 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported.

Out of the total cases in the city, 19064 cases are active, which includes 12850 asymptomatic cases, 5101 symptomatic cases and 1113 critical patients. Mumbai, as of Thursday, has 20 per cent active cases.

Ward-wise data showed that wards R-central, D and C had the lowest doubling rate, whereas wards H-East, K-East and L have the highest doubling rate. Officials have taken necessary steps to control the cases in these areas. Nine wards in Mumbai have a doubling rate of more than 100 days. 

Besides this, the BMC has marked 602 areas as containment zones and sealed 5552 buildings across several areas in Mumbai. So far, 855 areas and 17.453 buildings have been released from the list of hotspots.
