The number of new cases of COVID-19 in Mumbai is declining drastically. With the decline in the number of patients, the doubling rate too has gone up to 229 days. Also, the growth rate in Mumbai has come down to 0.30 per cent and the cure rate has gone up to 90 per cent.

Mumbai witnessed 599 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, while 20 people succumbed to this deadly virus. Furthermore, a total of 507 patients were treated at various hospitals across the city and sent home after they made a complete recovery. The total number of patients in Mumbai has reached 2,65,142. So far the death toll for the city is at 10,462. So far 2,37,29 patients in Mumbai have been cured and discharged. At present, 16,923 patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Mumbai.

A high doubling period means cases are rising at a slow pace, which in turn reflects that the curve is flattening and there are more vacant hospital beds now available for patients. At this stage, if there is a sudden spurt in cases, the healthcare system is prepared to tackle it, as said by health officials.

There are also conversations regarding the second wave that have been going around. Addressing those concerns, Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that Mumbai Municipal Corporation is fully prepared. Diwali is just a few days away. Mumbai Municipal Corporation has tightened its belt as coronavirus is likely to increase on Diwali period. Mumbai Municipal Corporation has banned the firing of firecrackers and fireworks on Diwali this year.
