Coronavirus cases in the city of Thane and nearby areas are now decreasing and as per the report released by the civic body, the doubling rate of cases in Thane has reached 299 days. Furthermore, the recovery rate has also improved significantly and currently stand at 94.91 per cent.

Officials at the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) have reported that so far 52,157 coronavirus patients were identified in the TMC areas, out of which 49,505 patients have recovered and given a discharge. Meanwhile, 1,191 patients have died due to the infection. A few days ago, the death rate in the locality was 2.32 per cent, which has now dropped and reached 2.28 per cent.

Moreover, 1,461 patients are currently being treated in the TMC area, however, the growth rate in cases has also reduced marginally from 0.30 per cent to 0.28 per cent.

The state health department, a few days after Diwali, reported an increase in coronavirus cases across several districts in Maharashtra. CM Uddhav Thackeray, before the festival, had asked people to not crowd the market areas, however, despite the directives, people gathered in public places. Observing this, the civic bodies were asked to take necessary steps against people flouting norms. Fines were imposed against those not wearing masks in the public, and tests were conducted for vendors, street hawkers and others.

Meanwhile, CM has warned the state of the second COVID-19 wave and keeping this in mind, the state and local bodies have ensured the hospitals and COVID centres with necessary facilities are kept ready in case of an emergency.

Meanwhile, a total of 17,37,080 COVID-19 patients across Maharashtra have been given discharge after full recovery from the infection. The recovery rate currently stands at 93.42 per cent and the case fatality rate is the state is at 2.57 per cent. Officials have tested more than 11.3 lakh laboratory samples out of which 1.634 per cent (18,59,367 samples) have been positive.
