Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Maharashtra is the worst-affected state in the country with 27,554 cases being recorded as of May 15, 5:30 pm. While the state is yet to receive some respite from coronavirus, not all hope is lost for Maharashtra. Recently, a 94-year-old woman and two infants from Kalyan beat the infection and recovered from COVID-19, giving the people some hope amid all the chaos.

The 94-year-old woman from Sangli was the oldest coronavirus patient in the state and upon her recovery, received a warm send-off by doctors and nurses of Miraj Hospital, Sangli. According to reports, she contracted the virus after coming in contact with a COVID-19 positive patient. The elderly woman was admitted to the government hospital in Miraj and was treated in an isolation ward for about two weeks.

Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray took Twitter to applaud the lady's undaunted spirit.

While the elderly persons are vulnerable to the COVID-19, the woman overcame the disease. After the last two reports of the 94-year-old woman came out to be negative, the doctors decided to discharge her.

On the other hand, two infants from Kalyan also fought and recovered from the infection. An official said that they were among 51 COVID-19 patients who recovered from the deadly infection at Kalyan taluka in Maharashtra’s Thane district.

"One of the infants was a month-old baby girl whereas the other was a two-month-old boy. The two were discharged from different hospitals, following their recovery," said Madhuri Phopale, public relations officer of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

Meanwhile, the total number of cases recorded in Thane has reached 2,903 on Thursday as the district witnessed its biggest spike in COVID-19 cases, with 201 people testing positive for the virus. Of the 2,903 patients, 899 have recovered, 87 had died and 1,917 were undergoing treatment, a report stated.
