After the sex reassignment surgery of Lalit Salvi (formerly Lalita) turned out to be successful, more people have started addressing the issue of sex change and sex reassignment surgery. Recently, a five-year-old girl from Beed has come forward as per St. George Hospital Superintendent Madhukar Gaikwad. Gaikwad told Mumbai Live about the surgery and stated that the surgery will be completed under a week’s time.

Constable Lalita Salve underwent a medical test in 2014 where it was confirmed that her body possessed male genes. She underwent a test in 2016 at J J Hospital where she was suggested that she should change her sex. After Lalita’s transition to Lalit, several people in society accepted the problem and came forward to discuss it.

Till now, 16 people have contacted J J Hospital and have inquired about sex change as well as sex reassignment surgery. 37-year-old Rita Devi too has shown the will to have a sex reassignment surgery. Devi had told Mumbai Live that she wanted to do so for five years.

After Lalit, the second surgery was going to happen on Rita Devi. Accordingly, Devi had come to the hospital and had some tests done but due to some technical difficulties, her surgery had been postponed. Thus, now the second surgery will be conducted on the five-year-old girl from Beed.

Dr. Rajat Kapoor, who was the plastic surgeon during Lalit’s surgery, will also be operating on the five-year-old.

While the tests were conducted, it was learnt that the five-year-old was not a girl but a boy. As their genital hadn’t developed fully, due to which the parents felt that he was a girl and raised her like one. However, after some time, the parents learnt that their child wasn’t a girl but he a boy and since the parents had no knowledge of it, they were unable to do anything.

However, once they approached Lalit, they got rid of all their doubts and fears and decided to consult the concerned doctors.

While it may seem like a sex change surgery, it is a sex reassignment surgery. As per Dr. Gaikwad,

This surgery is not a sex change surgery but more like a sex reassignment surgery. The girl will be provided whatever assistance she needs as per our expertise.”
