The Maharashtra government will set up day care chemotherapy centres in six cities to improve cancer treatment, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said.
The centres will be set up in Thane, Solapur, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nanded and Wardha, Shinde added.
The initiative includes eight mobile vans, 102 ambulances, seven advanced life support ambulances, two CT (computed tomography) machines and 80 digital handheld X-ray machines.
"Around two crore women in Maharashtra will undergo a comprehensive health check-up under a new programme that includes tests for blood pressure, diabetes, haemoglobin etc. The mobile health check-up units will ensure that even women in rural areas get proper medical help," Shinde said.
"The Chief Minister's Medical Assistance Cell has provided financial assistance of Rs 460 crore to 51,000 patients in the last two years. Similarly, a 'Deputy Chief Minister's Medical Assistance Cell' will be set up. In addition, seven Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances will be deployed in Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Sindhudurg, Pune, Ratnagiri and Raigad districts," he said.
Nearly 80 portable digital hand-held X-ray machines will help in detecting tuberculosis patients in rural districts. While new CT scan facilities will be available in hospitals in Vaijapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dahanu, the Deputy Chief Minister said.
On the occasion, the 'Mayaka' app was launched to promote mental health and well-being. Union Minister of State for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav said that a naturopathy and wellness centre as well as a herbal garden will be set up in Dare village in Satara district. The 'Har Ghar Ayurveda' scheme was also launched on the occasion.
