Maharashtra State Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, recently instructed the administration to be prepared for the lockdown and this has led to confusion across the state. Clarifying the same, State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope, said that the same was done to explain the seriousness of the situation in Maharashtra.

Tope was also present at the task force meeting on Monday, March 29, 2021. Commenting on the important points discussed at the meeting, Tope told a news channel that lockdown is something that no one likes, and it will not be implemented in an abrupt manner. The government is making sure all the circumstances are considered carefully.

Keeping the same in mind, the Chief Minister has discussed many issues through such meetings.

As patients grow, the government has to plan for enough resources and ensure they are made available. Officials have to study the same at every stage depending on the number of cases that will grow in the next few days, and if the administrations have the access to health facilities such as medicines to beds.

Lockdown is a thoughtful decision. Furthermore, even if simple restrictions are to be tightened, the government has to consider many ways to implement the same, keeping the industries, the issues of the poor, migrant workers, transportation, manpower strictly enforce the restrictions, and other related aspects in mind.

He added that the increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the state is certainly something to worry about, and even if the state government imposes restrictions, it should get support from the people. While talking to the media, Tope mentioned that the government expects everyone to abide by these rules in any case. However, the markets are now crowded, wedding ceremonies and events are being held without proper norms, etc. Moreover, people don't have a mask on their faces and don't follow social distancing rules. If the infection is spreading despite these rules, it is due to negligence from the citizens, asserted Tope.
