483 children died within 24 hours of birth: Health Management Information System Report

The report states that from April 2017 to February 2018, 13,541 children died in the state within 24 hours of birth. While there were 3,778 children who died moments after birth.

The policies made by the state government to counter the increase in infant mortality rate in the state including Mumbai, are proving to be inadequate. Last year, the infant mortality rate had increased and the situation is not very good this year too. This issue was raised in Nagpur during the Maharashtra Assembly Monsoon Session.

Last year, there was an increase in infant mortality in the state including Mumbai. According to the statistics, 483 infants died within 24 hours of birth this year in Mumbai. The situation of a city like Mumbai is no different and the false claims of hospitalising the high-level system is a matter of concern.

During the ongoing monsoon session in Nagpur, Health Minister, Dr. Deepak Sawant, speaking on this subject, said that there has been an increase in infant mortality rate in the state. On behalf of the Health Management Information System (HMIS), a report related to the infant mortality rate in the state was presented.

On the basis of the report, it was clear that the infant mortality rate had increased in 2017-18. The report further said that the death of these children happened due to weight loss, premature birth, difficulty in breathing.
