The Tata Memorial Centre is set to open the first facility in India dedicated to Ayurvedic cancer research and treatment. This venture will be located in Khopoli. It will utilise approximately 20 acres of land for a 100-bed hospital and research institute.

The facility is expected to be completed by March 2026. The Department of Atomic Energy has given the hospital INR 300 crore for the centre, which will be led by head and neck cancer surgeon Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi.

The hospital is going to be a comprehensive cancer care facility. It will be around 30-40 minutes away from the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) centre in Kharghar.

It will house a dedicated research division committed to exploring Ayurvedic treatments for cancer. Ayurvedic plants—which are said to have anti-cancer properties—will be grown at this new site. These plants will be tested for their potential to treat cancer.

The clinical focus will be on investigating herbal remedies and plant-based chemicals that may enhance current cancer treatments. It will also create therapies that strengthen immunity.

The facility will research the anti-oxidative and anti-carcinogenic properties of various Ayurvedic ingredients. Ayurveda is being considered as a potential adjuvant therapy in cancer treatment. There are many medications that are being used as adjuvant drugs for their cytoprotective properties.

The main purpose of this new hospital and research centre is to combine Ayurveda with modern medicine. It will also investigate whether the existing Ayurvedic medications are actually beneficial in the treatment of cancer or not.
