The Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has now decided to test the citizens seen without masks at public places.

This decision comes after an alarming spike in coronavirus cases in the corporation area. Moreover, it has been found that many citizens do not follow COVID-related protocols.

The municipal administration and the police will now take drastic steps in order to curb the cases of coronavirus. Police have also warned that people seen without wearing masks should be tested for COVID-19 and positive patients should be sent directly to the quarantine centre. If the rules are violated during the wedding ceremony, the concerned lawn will be sealed till April 30, said KDMC commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi.

A meeting was recently held in the presence of the Municipal Commissioner to implement the approach to control the growing number of patients. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner of Police Datta Karale, Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Circle-3 Vivek Pansare, all Divisional Deputy Commissioners of Municipal Corporation, Municipal Medical Health Officer Dr Ashwini Patil, Municipal Secretary, Sanjay Jadhav, Municipal Communicable Diseases Control Officer Dr Panpatil, Commissioner of Police Anil Powar, all ward area officers as well as other police officers were present.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta Karale said that police and municipal employees should be present at the ceremony on the lawns.

According to the latest guidelines, people travelling without masks will be arrested and fined INR 500.

The violators will be taken to Old Mahatma Phule Police Station in Kalyan or Ramnagar Police Station in Dombivali. Later, they will be tested by the doctors and those testing positive will be sent directly to the isolation centre.
