The KEM hospital in Mumbai is one of the 10 centres across the country that will host the phase one and phase two trials of covidshield, the potential drug to treat the coronavirus which has been developed in Oxford University.

In the first stage conducted at the U.K, the clinical efficacy was proven to be safe with minimal side effects.

On the other hand, the Russian Health Ministry, on August 15, asserted that the country has already initiated the production for the COVID-19 vaccine, a development that comes days after Moscow announced ‘world’s first COVID-19 vaccine’.

According to reports, the vaccine has been named Sputnik V. This clinically approved vaccine against the novel coronavirus has been manufactured by the Gamaleya Research Institute in collaboration with the Russian Health Ministry.

Moreover, the vaccine, which is the first to go for production, will be rolled out by the end of this month. However, even though the process has been fastened and could be beneficial in the battle against the coronavirus, the drug has continued to draw scepticism from around the world with many asserting that the Russians may have put prestige before safety.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, however, dismissing the claim has asserted that one of his daughters had been given the vaccine developed by the country to protect her against the disease.
