Due to changing lifestyle, increasing stress, the number of people suffering from depression is increasing in the state. During the year, the youth made the most calls to the call centre 'Telemanus', which was started by the state government to relieve the citizens of the state from stress and guide them about their problems. Young people in the age group of 18 to 45 have called 'Telemanus' and presented their problems.


Nowadays the youth is under a lot of stress due to various reasons like changing lifestyle, failure in exams, admission in good college, work stress in job, failure in business, career anxiety. Young people who are constantly busy with work are feeling extremely tired. But they do not notice that they are under mental stress. Due to this constant stress, they become mentally weak and depressed. To get out of the depressed state, they need to go to a psychiatrist for treatment. But there is a general belief in society that going to a psychiatrist means that the person is crazy. So many people avoid going to a psychiatrist. As a result, their mental illness increases. The call centre 'Telemanus' started by the state government to provide counselling and guidance to the citizens is getting a large response from the citizens. During the year, more than 50 thousand citizens from various parts of the state have contacted and it has been revealed that the number of youth in the age group of 18 to 45 is more.

73.5 percent of the youth in the age group of 18 to 45 in the state tried to solve their problems by contacting the 'Telemanus' centre. Below that, 16 percent of citizens in the age group of 46 to 64 years, 4.3 percent in the age group of 13 to 17 years, 1.2 percent of children under 12 years of age and 4.9 percent of citizens above 65 years of age are informed by the Chief Executive Officer of the State Mental Health Authority and the Department of Mental Health Dr Swapneel Lale.

Depression is on the rise among youth, followed by social and workplace stress, anxiety, test stress, fear of failure, and relationship problems.
