Thane gets a new COVID-19 hospital in Balkum

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated the COVID-19 facility recently and Maharashtra DGIPR took to Twitter to share the information about the hospital.

The state of Maharashtra has been under lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak from March 2020. While the number of cases in Maharashtra has been increasing with a similar pattern observed in Mumbai, the nearby district of Thane has seen an exponential rise in cases. Observing the same, Thane Municipal Corporation along with the Government of Maharashtra decided to develop a  COVID-19 hospital in Thane.

The event was recently held where Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has inaugurated the COVID-19 facility, which will help in treating patients with coronavirus. The inauguration ceremony was conducted in the presence of Thane District Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, Housing Minister, Jitendra Awhad, Mayor Naresh Mhaske and others. 

The special COVID-19 hospital has been set up in Balkum area of Thane and has been developed in association with Thane Municipal Corporation. MMRDA, CIDCO and CREDAI (MCHI). This facility was built in 24 days with the support Jupiter hospital which provided technical assistance along with LnTl.

The treatment for coronavirus patients will be free of cost. The hospital has 25 ventilators, pathology lab, X-ray and coronavirus testing facilities. Besides this, it also has lockers and television for entertainment. Further to ensure that there is enough power supply a 1000 KW generator is also available.

Maharashtra DGIPR took to Twitter to share the information with the tweet which mentioned that out of 1024 beds in the hospital, 500 beds have been provided with oxygen facility. Further, 76 beds will be used for ICU, 10 beds for dialysis patients and 10 beds are for trauma patients. An additional 300-bed facility can be made in the hospital if required. 

In a meeting held earlier. It was decided that officials will review the measures taken by the TMC keeping the coronavirus cases in mind. As of June 15, 2020, Thane had a total of 2651 cases. The tally also shows that 2,469 patients have recovered from the infection and 163 patients have died due to COVID-19
