Maharashtra: Daily Average Vaccination Hits Six Month High From December 1-14

In the first two weeks of December, the daily average vaccination numbers in Maharashtra reached a six-month high, revealed the health department data, according to reports. In accordance to the data, the state had administered an average of 8.79 lakh vaccines daily between December 1-14.

This has surpassed the average of September at 7.61 lakh every day, which has been the highest so far. The data further elucidated that nearly 14 districts in Maharashtra had fully inoculated over half of its eligible population.

Districts that are leading from the front include Mumbai at 80 per cent, Pune at 70 per cent, Bhandara at 68 per cent, Sindhudurg at 66 per cent, followed by Gondia at 62 per cent.

On Thursday, December 16, Maharashtra's National Health Mission Commissioner, Dr Ramaswami N was quoted by accounts elaborating on how cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 had propelled the number of daily vaccines administered. Adding that this can be attributed to more people coming ahead to get their second dose. 

In other developments, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said that the new strain may be the reason behind the third wave of COVID-19 in the state. Moreover, the state health department hinted that Maharashtra would see a large number of Omicron cases in January.
