A meeting was held between Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray with the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), following which the decision was taken. They will give the amount in two installments - one in October and one in March. Central MARD President Dr. Dnyaneshwar Dhoble thanked Thackeray for making the announcement.

For the unversed, more than 4,000 resident doctors went on a strike in the state demanding to completely waiver the academic fees during the COVID-19 pandemic, non-deduction of TDS (tax deducted at source) from a stipend, etc. The doctors had halted attending their regular work along with outpatient assistance. They called off their strike post their meeting with the state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
