A sero-survey is likely to be conducted post-Diwali by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The survey will be conducted to determine the exposure levels amongst the citizens to the COVID-19, causing the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Since July 2020, this would be the sixth sero-survey. Mumbai's fifth sero-survey was done in August this year, wherein it depicted a prominent prevalence of antibodies, with 86.64% of the 8,000 plus citizens examined depicting disclosure to coronavirus.

Suresh Kakani, additional commissioner of BMC, while addressing the media, said that they are planning to conduct more surveys. Conducting a survey right after Diwali would be good, he added. However, they are yet to decide the dates for the sixth survey. He further said that the sero-survey would help them in assessing the effect of the vaccination in creating antibodies.

The civic body had set a target of vaccinating about 35 lakh people in October. Sero survey will also help health officials in determining the drop in antibody levels amongst the citizens. On October 7, the UK had proclaimed that Indians who are fully vaccinated, with either Covishield or UK-approved vaccine, wouldn't be required to quarantine on traveling to the UK from Monday, October 11.
