Given that the Maharashtra Government is already preparing for the third wave of the coronavirus, officials have said over the past few weeks that a special paediatric task force will be set up to mitigate the spread of the virus among children.
This Paediatric Task Force was officially announced on Thursday by State Health Minister Rajesh Tope. The task force will consist of 13 experts from across the state and will be chaired by renowned paediatrician Dr Suhas Prabhu.
Director at the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Dr Tatyarao Lahane will be a member secretary of the Paediatric Task Force. An order related to the announcement was issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Health Department, Dr Pradeep Vyas.
Several officials across the state have warned of a potential third wave in the country. While experts have differing opinions on the timeline of its arrival, almost everybody is in agreement that proper mitigation measures ought to be put in place beforehand. Medical experts have warned that children are likely to be impacted by the third wave of the virus.
