A day after Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government announced free treatment for mucormycosis in all government hospitals, the Leader of Opposition and former CM Devendra Fadnavis demanded to fix the rates of the treatment of the rare fungal infection in private hospitals too.

While talking to the media, Devendra Fadnavis said: “The cost of treating ‘mucormycosis’ is huge. The state government's announcement of free treatment is fraudulent. The state government should at least provide free injections for these treatments. Moreover, no such discrimination should be made between a government or a private hospital.”

Cost should be borne by the government

While free treatment is available only in government and some notified hospitals. It has come to light that a large number of patients with this disease are also admitted to private hospitals. Therefore, the state government should give free injections to all the patients with mucormycosis, no matter what hospital they are admitted to. All the expenses should be borne by the government. At the same time, the government should decide the amount of the remaining treatment in the private hospital, said Devendra Fadnavis.
