Mumbai COVID-19 cases on a rise; no fresh lockdown as of now

In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the State Health Minister stated that there is no plan to induce a lockdown in the state.

With the Mumbai locals resuming operations in the city, instances of coronavirus are on a rise once again. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope speaking about the same has stated that strict action has to be taken as the number of COVID-19 patients are increasing in various districts.

However, Tope added that there is no plan to induce a lockdown in the state. In the last 10 days, more than 200 patients suffering from the coronavirus were found in Mumbai every day. On the other hand, even though there is a time constraint in local travel, the number of passengers in the locals has been increasing for the last 10 days.

Furthermore, he stated that after the first dose of vaccination, the second dose will be applied after one month. However, he urged the people to take due care for a fortnight.

Moreover, in view of the situation, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier directed the Nagpur and Amravati division commissioners to be more vigilant and step-up measures to control the spread of COVID-19. According to reports, Parbhani, Jalna, Beed and Latur districts and Amravati division comprising Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Yavatmal and Washim has reported a rising number of cases daily.

Meanwhile, earlier on January 3, the Drugs Controller General of India approved COVID-19 vaccines Covishield and Covaxin for restricted emergency use. Manufactured by the Serum Institute of India with technology transfer from Oxford University-AstraZeneca, COVISHIELD is a Recombinant Chimpanzee Adenovirus vector vaccine with its overall efficacy of 70.42 per cent. On the other hand, COVAXIN is a Whole Virion Inactivated Corona Virus Vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR and NIV.
