On Thursday, December 30, Maharashtra reported 198 new cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant of COVID-19, highlighted data released by the government. From this, 190 cases alone were reported from Mumbai.
Apart from this, 4 cases were reported in Thane, while one case each was reported in Satara, Nanded and Pune. To date, 450 patients have been infected with the new variant in Maharashtra. From these, 327 Omicron cases were found in Mumbai.

This included 26 out of state patients. Moreover, nine patients were foreign nationals, whilst one patient each is from Raigad, Palghar, Jalgaon, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad. Similarly, seven are from Thane and four are from Kolhapur.
All of the 198 new Omicron cases have been reported by the Indian Council of Medical Research of which 30 are international travellers.
The number of Omicron patients that have recovered so far stands at 125. Similarly, 5,368 new coronavirus cases were registered in the state. The recoveries on the other hand stand at 1,193 whilst the total fatalities reported were 22.
With this, the active cases stand at 18,217. Moreover, cases in Mumbai continued to catapult with 3,671 new positive patients being reported on Thursday, December 30, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data. However, in a sense of respite, zero fatalities were reported.
