The state government has expressed its intent to make generic medicines more widely available in the state.

For a start, pulic hospitals and those affiliated to medical colleges will be provided with generic medicines on a priority basis, according to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The generic medicine stores will stock drugs that are much cheaper than branded ones, and will be in line with the central government's intention of making the cheaper medicines available to as many patients as possible. The state government plans to take the generic medicine stores to every taluka in the state in the next three years, according to union minister for chemicals and fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviya, who met Fadnavis in Mumbai on Thursday.
