While the entire country has been battling with the pandemic, the coronavirus outbreak has killed 7,219 people in the city of Mumbai so far.

Most of these deaths have occurred in the areas of Andheri and Jogeshwar East. The number of coronavirus victims in Andheri and Jogeshwar East is 503.

On the other hand, the D-ward which includes areas such as Breach Candy, Nepean Sea Road, Cumballa and Malabar Hills, Gamdevi and Grant Road, in the period between August 7 and August 12, reported 60 fresh cases every day which is an increase from 40 fresh cases reported every day earlier.

The BMC, in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus, is now sealing entire buildings in these areas where a high number of COVID-19 cases are being found. Moreover, the civic body has reported that entire families have been testing positive for the disease in recent times in the D-ward.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, August 19, the coronavirus case tally in Mumbai rose to 1,31,542 with 1,132 fresh cases being recorded, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

The state of Maharashtra on the other hand, recorded 13,165 new cases of the coronavirus, propelling the state's COVID-19 tally to 6,28,642. Currently, there are 1,60,413 active cases in the state. With 9,011 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 4,46,881.
