The biggest grief is losing your loved one. However, there are many who keep their loved ones alive by donating their organs.

One such incident took place at Mira Road where the Uchil family lost their only son Pratik Uchil (20) in a bike accident on the day of Padwa (Diwali). His mother Rupa Uchil who works at Wockhardt Hospital, went into a major shock but overcame her grief and decided to donate her son’s organs.

Pratik who was riding a bike met with an accident. The impact was such that he suffered a severe head injury and was admitted to Orbit Hospital, Kashimira, where after treating him for first aid, he was moved to Wockhardt Hospital.

After two days of observation, doctors declared him brain-dead on Sunday night due to internal bleeding.

Her mother donated his liver, two kidneys, and corneas which saved lives of three people and gave sight to two people.

His mother was in distress yet she went ahead with organ donation. It is only because of her brave decision, three people could see the day of light,” said Ravi Hirani, Chief, Wockhardt Hospital.

A surgery took place in Wockhardt Hospital itself where a liver and kidney was transplanted while another kidney was donated to Hinduja Hospital. While the cornea was handed over to Borivali’s Rotary Eye Bank.
