Doctors in Mumbai have noticed a rise in the number of viral infections amongst children. Amidst the present coronavirus pandemic and the new variants that are brought to light, medical practitioners have stated that parents must promptly seek medical advice for viral fever amongst children, reported the Hindustan Times.

They say that instead of wasting the initial days of the symptoms with at-home self-medication, medical help should immediately be sought. According to doctors, the city's air quality coupled with the layers of smog witnessed over the past few days have worsened respiratory illnesses.

This is reported to be especially severe amongst adults and children with existing lung conditions. Additionally, on November 16, south Mumbai had an air quality that was reported to be even worse than that of Delhi. Colaba's air quality touched 345, based on the information generated by the System of Air Quality And Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

Doctors have elaborated that following COVID-19 guidelines that include wearing masks, practising hand hygiene can also help curtail the spread of the usual flu.

Amid the reports of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, it is reported that the state task force may conduct a meeting on Tuesday, November 30 to discuss the reopening of schools.
