Currently, the world is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic. The virus originated in China and spread to the world. In China, the outbreak started in late 2019 in the city of Wuhan. While China seems to have the outbreak under control now, India is still trying to control the spread.

India is currently the third most impacted country in the world from the coronavirus outbreak and is trailing behind the US and Brazil. Maharashtra in India is the most impacted city and Mumbai is the city with maximum number of recorded cases.

On Tuesday, nearly 5,134 COVID-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra and 785 in Mumbai. Meanwhile, 225 fresh COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state and 64 in Mumbai. With this, the city has now surpassed the total number of cases and deaths in China.

According to the data shared by the authorities, the total case tally in Mumbai on Tuesday stands at 85,724 coronavirus cases. While in China the current tally is at 83,565. Further, the death toll in Mumbai due to the deadly virus is now at 4,938 deaths whereas in China it is at 83,565.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached 2,17,121 while the death toll has touched 9,250.

As China now has the virus under control, it is now registering mostly single digital additions in its total tally. However, Mumbai is recording almost 1000 cases on a daily basis.

The silver lining, however, is that on Tuesday, there was a single-digit growth recorded in Dharavi.  Dharavi is one of the biggest slums in Asia. It is situated in the centre of Mumbai, Dharavi is densely populated and has come a long way from being one of the major COVID-19 hotspots toa single-digit numbers.

As per the official data, the number of COVID-19 cases in Dharavi has reached 2,335.
