As Mumbai has been experiencing a growth in COVID-19 cases among children since September this year, vaccinations is yet to begin for kids.

Now, it has come to light that the SRCC Children’s hospital in Mumbai has urged parents of children aged between 2-17 to register their kids for the jab.

This comes at a time when schools reopened for classes 5 to 12 in the city and state. In addition, the Maharashtra government also mentioned that they plan to resume physical classes for Std 1 to 4 soon.

The hospital authorities, however, informed that the dates for the vaccination drive will be announced only after government approval.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had last month stated that the city is ready to vaccinate 33 lakh children and is waiting for guidelines.

Bharat Biotech has completed its Phase 2/3 trials of COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, on children below 18 years of age in September. It was earlier declared that the vaccines for kids will begin in October. However, later it was informed that it may still take time to vaccinate children across the nation.

According to data released in October, nearly 49,743 infections were seen among children and adolescents 13,947 below nine years of age and 35,806 between 10 and 19 years of age.
