In 2025, Mumbaikars will be able to book their appointments at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals through mobile apps and web portals. All information about both patient and doctor will be available in one click. The BMC awarded the tender for Health Management Information System (HMIS) in all hospitals and clinics to government company RailTel. As soon as this system is implemented, BMC hospitals will become paperless.

After registering the patient in the system he will get a unique identification number. Patients will not need case paper. This entire process is documented. The patient's health history, reports and medications are computerized in the HMIS system by the doctor.

The patient does not need to repeat his health history at the next visit. Once the doctor makes a specific identification, the patient's history is presented on the computer screen with one click. This will save time for both the patient and the doctor. By collecting information on patients, disease trends will be known, which will help the government to plan for disease prevention and treatment.

It will take one year

Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Sudhakar Shinde said that once the system is operational, BMC hospitals will become paperless and cashless, and people will be able to book doctor's appointments through mobile apps. Through the app and portal, the patient will get his medical records in one click. This will save the time of both doctor and patient. It will take one year to complete this entire process.

The BMC awarded a tender of INR 351.95 cr for 5 years to Railtel. The company will look after its software, hardware, manpower, operation and maintenance for HMIS.
