New born twins of Mrs. Sanvi Swapnil Mohite, a resident of Sector 6 Sarsole, whose lungs were not developed enough since birth in the NICU of the Municipal Corporation's Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital in Nerul, has returned home after fighting for life for four months. In this, on behalf of the Mohite family, the doctors and nurses of the Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation expressed their sincere thanks for the proper treatment and tireless hard work. Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar also congratulated the entire medical team of the hospital.

Sanvi Swapnil Mohite from Sarasole went into labour on February 10, 2023 and gave birth to twins. Normally, a baby's lungs are fully formed by 34 weeks in the womb. But Sanvi's babies were born at 26 weeks. Therefore, their lungs were not fully developed. Saving the lives of such babies is a huge challenge for the medical community. But the medical team at Nerul Hospital decided to take up the challenge. Will these twins make it to morning when they were delivered at night? When there is such a doubt, the struggle of those children with life is tremendous. Babies needed ventilators as their lungs were not fully developed. The municipal medical team immediately put them on ventilators, provided free injections of surfactant, which is very expensive, to make lungs, in the NICU and started treating the babies.

Even after the baby comes off the ventilator, it takes a lot of exercise to gain weight. In this regard, the hard work done by the staff nurses in NICU is highly commendable. Similarly, the patience and determination shown by Sanvi Mohite, the mother of the babies, when this great crisis has befallen her babies, is certainly admirable. The struggle of her who believed in the treatment given by the doctors without losing her patience for almost four months, is inspiring.

Last year, 449 children were treated in NICU from Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital, Nerul where 15 children weighing less than 1 kg and 51 children weighing 1 to 1.5 kg 5 have been successfully treated. This is a matter of great pride for the Navi Mumbai Municipal Hospital Service.
