According to the latest reports, the sixth serosurvey of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) highlights that from the 3,099 samples of the healthcare workers (HCW) as well as frontline workers (FLW) in Mumbai, 3,097 had positive antibody titres. This comes up to 99.93 per cent of seropositivity.

Based on accounts, the high presence of antibodies is being attributed to vaccination in the city and the possible early exposure to COVID-19. In addition to this, the antibody titres were much larger in those participants who had taken the booster doses in contrast to those who had taken two doses.

Suresh Kakani, BMC's additional commissioner was quoted in narratives elaborating on how the results highlight that the precautionary doses assist in providing more precaution against coronavirus, thus, it becomes important that those eligible should not only get fully vaccinated but also get the precautionary dose.

Moreover, almost 99.35 per cent of the participants had taken vaccines against COVID-19. While 96.7 per cent took Covishield, 3.3 per cent took Covaxin. Similarly, 36.5 per cent had taken the booster shot.

It has been reported that this is the first such survey to be conducted over nine months to assess if antibodies produced against coronavirus are fading. In BMC's fifth serosurvey in August 2021, 86.64 per cent of those surveyed had antibodies against the novel virus.
