The second phase results of the genome sequencing on covid-19 patients in the city were proclaimed on Thursday, highlighted reports. Out of the 376 samples utilized, 304 samples were spotted with infection by the Delta subtype variant. None of the samples taken was reported to be infected by the Delta Plus variant. During the first phase, 93 citizens were spotted to be infected by the variant out of these 27 were fully vaccinated.

Of the other samples in the second phase, 2 samples were of the 19A subtype and 4 samples were from the subtype 20A. The leftover 66 samples, were of the usual covid virus. Suresh Kakani, the Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) elaborated that in samples of both the phases, not even one sample of the Delta Plus sub-type that is immensely infectious was found, stated a report by the Mid-Day. Information on the findings will be exposed subsequently.

In the first phase, samples of an aggregate of 188 patients infected with covid-19 were studied. Out of these, 128 were detected to be infected by the Delta subtype variant, others were infected with the usual covid virus.

Analytical results of the data in the first phase also show that out of the 128 Delta affected samples, 93 were from Mumbai. Of these, 45 and 48 were male and female patients’ samples respectively. Additionally, from these 93, nearly 54 had to be admitted to the hospital. The remaining almost 40 persons hadn’t shown any symptoms and thus, weren’t needed to be hospitalized.

Furthermore, from these 93, 47 were vaccinated of which 20 had received the first jab and 27 were fully vaccinated. The remaining, 46 hadn’t received any jabs. On the other hand, a mere 4 who were fully vaccinated required oxygen supply.

Kakani further elucidated that considering the quick spread of the Delta variant, all must follow the covid protocols. The authorities have been urging people to use face masks, practice social distancing, wash hands and avoid crowds, mentioned the account.

An aggregate of 1,194 who were close contacts of the 93 in the island city were tested. From these, 80 tested positive for coronavirus
