Many times, a lot of people opt for gold filing in their teeth but now, it's also going to possible in knee replacement. This is going to help those who have allergies to iron and other elements which are used in during a knee replacement surgery.
Navi Mumbai’s resident, 55-year-old Shalini Sawant was allergic to iron and steel rods and so she was not able to undergo knee replacement. Finally, she came across Wockhardt Hospital where she was treated for golden knee replacement.
As many people are allergic to various elements, undergoing knee replacement for them becomes a major problem. And if the person is diabetic then the problem doubles. Likewise, Sawant was allergic to iron and metal caps, so we did a knee replacement surgery using a golden kneecap,” Dr Shailendra Patil, Orthopedist, Wockhardt Hospital.
This surgery is now available in a small number of hospitals in India. During this surgery, a part of 'knee implant' i.e tetanial neobium nitrate is covered with a golden-like colour and hence this surgery is known as 'Golden Knee Replacement'.
Dr. Shailendra Patil has claimed that this is first-of-its-kind surgery in Navi Mumbai’s Wockhardt Hospital.
