A youth from Digha has been booked by Sanpada RPF after a video of him allegedly engaging in a dangerous act near railway tracks went viral on social media. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of Mumbai local train passengers.
In the viral video, the youth is seen standing near the railway tracks and appearing to throw a stone towards an approaching Mumbai local train. He is also seen making obscene gestures towards passengers. Following the circulation of the video, railway authorities launched an inquiry and identified the youth.
After being identified, the youth posted an apology video on social media, admitting his mistake and apologising for his actions.
In the video, he claimed that the viral clip was made only for a reel and that he had not actually thrown a stone at the local train. He claimed that he threw the stone to the side and only acted as if he was throwing it at the train.
“Again, I will not make such a mistake. Please forgive me,” he said in the apology video.
According to police, the video came to the attention of the Thane Railway Police, following which the youth was identified. Sanpada RPF subsequently initiated action against him under relevant provisions of the Railway Act.
Police are also investigating whether any particular local train or passengers were actually targeted and whether anyone was placed at risk during the incident.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing trend of people performing dangerous stunts near railway tracks to gain views and likes on social media. Attempting to throw a stone at a moving local train can pose a serious threat to passengers and may lead to strict action against those involved.
