The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started the registration of frontline workers on Co-WIN digital portal for second phase of anti-COVID vaccination drive.

So far, more than 1.5 lakh employees in the essential services have registered for the vaccination, which might take place in March or April.

In the second phase, all the employees of the municipality and the police will be vaccinated. Though, the first phase of vaccination of health workers is currently underway, civic body has started preparations for the next phase of vaccination.

Around 75 dispensaries of the municipality will be started as vaccination centers. Earlier, it was reported that the BMC would increase the number of vaccination centres in its 24 divisional wards in the city. Accordingly, the municipal administration would start three new vaccination centres in each ward.

The same procedure of vaccination will be followed in the second phase. Beneficiaries will get the message on their registered cellphone number for the first and second doses of vaccine. After taking the second dose, the beneficiaries will get digital certificate.

As of Wednesday, January 20, 5,251 healthcare workers had been vaccinated in Mumbai. There have been 10 cases of minor adverse effects post-vaccination recorded so far. Few doctors had also complained of feeling feverish, weakness or body ache for one-day post-vaccination. However, the civic body aims to vaccinate over 3,000 healthcare workers on Friday, January 22, the fourth day of vaccination in the city.

According to reports, BMC has decided to allow 'walk-in' vaccination for the registered healthcare workers (HCW) due to low turnout of volunteers for the inoculation process.
