As per reports, the residents of Panvel and Kharghar have been complaining of poor health infrastructure. This has been worrisome especially since the second wave of COVID-19 is expected to hit early next year.
According to mid-day, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been having a difficult time combating the issue more so after the state government removed two private referral hospitals from the list for treating serious COVID-19 patients in the PMC recently. As per reports, MGM hospital and a few beds in D Y Patil Hospital has now been brought under the ambit of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana.
Even though the PMC has a population of over 8.4 lakh, it has no jumbo care centre or dedicated COVID-19 healthcare centre. This can prove to be problematic in the near future, especially if the state is hit with a second wave of the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, November 24, Maharashtra reported 5,439 cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 17,89,800. Currently, there are 83,221 active cases in the state. With 4,086 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 16,58,879.
With regards to India, as of now, there are 91,77,840 confirmed novel coronavirus cases out of which 86,04,955 patients have been discharged with 1,34,218 fatalities being reported. There are 4,38,667 active cases in the country. With 42,314 patients recovering from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the national recovery rate has surged to 93.76 per cent. The country's cumulative tests reached 13,36,82,275 with 10,99,545 samples tested for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. Moreover, the tests per million have increased to 96,871 tests.
