Dancer Lourd Vijay to drive across the nation to raise awareness about organ donation

41-year-old Lourd Vijay, a professional dancer and Guinness World Record holder, is all set to create nation-wide awareness on kidney disease and organ donation. He will be driving from Chennai to Ladakh covering a distance of 9,000 km. He will be doing it through his foundation ‘Spreading Hope’. He was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in 2013 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2016.


The foundation has collaborated with ‘DaVita’ a Fortune 200 dialysis provider. Their objective is to spread awareness on kidney disease through classroom-type sessions, conduct no-cost kidney screenings and raise awareness on organ donation.

We have associated with ‘Spreading Hope’ drive with an aim to increase awareness regarding kidney disease. The problem is there is no awareness and hence if it is detected late then it becomes fatal

The ‘Spreading Hope’ drive is an endeavour towards improving awareness about kidney disease and organ donation in India.

After dealing with Chronic Kidney disease for the last 3.5 years, I set myself a mission to get 10 million people to knowingly and accountable pledge their organs, there by saving 100,000 lives over the next 5 years,”

The purpose is to engage with the government, corporates, educational and health care institutions to support the cause.

One in 10 Indians are at a risk of kidney disease, yet awareness about its seriousness remains low, at only seven per cent. Dr Avinash Ignatius, senior consultant nephrologist, DaVita Care, Pune.
