As per recent development, many coronavirus (COVID-19) patients, across several districts of the state, have been suffering from a fungal disease named Mucormycosis. Keeping the increasing prevalance in mind, the Maharashtra Government has launched a public awareness campaign to inform people about the condition. 

Furthermore, patients affected with mucormycosis will also be treated free of cost under the Mahatma Phule Janaarogya Yojana, said Health Minister Rajesh Tope. The announcement was made by him while interacting with media representatives in Jalna.

Sharing more information, he said that COVID-19 patients who have diabetes which is not under control are showing symptoms this fungal disease whereby black spots form near the nose and lips. If left untreated, the disease can have serious effects on the respiratory system, brain, and the eyes. 

Experts have suggested the need for early diagnosis of this disease and hence creating awareness about the same among the citizens is necessary. Moreover, due to the high cost of this medicine, over 1000 patients admitted under the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana will be treated free of cost, added Minister Tope.
