The Reliance Jio Convention Centre located in the Bandra-Kurla Complex will be transformed into a Corona Care Centre. On Sunday, Mumbai City Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh and Maharashtra Tourism Minister and Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Aaditya Thackeray told the media about the same during their visit to the Jio Convention Centre.

Thackeray and Shaikh, during their visit on Sunday, were accompanied by senior BMC officials. The officials said that idea to convert the Convention Centre in a dedicated COVID-19 Hospital was underway.

The development comes after Shaikh along with Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Singh, Collector of Mumbai Suburban, Milind Borikar and other civic officials had conducted an inspection tour. As per reports, the Jio Convention Center at Bandra-Kurla Complex can accommodate up to 1,500 COVID-19 patients.

Other than Jio Convention Centre, the BMC along with state government has been relentlessly working to meet up with the rise in the number of cases in Mumbai. The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is setting up a 1,800-bed COVID care facility at Mulund's Richardson & Cruddas campus. This facility is expected to be finished by June 10.

Earlier, on May 24, Mumbai City Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh had visited the COVID care centre (jumbo facility) at Byculla's Richardson and Cruddas Factory. The facility has been set up with 800 beds for COVID-19 patients, of which, 300 beds will have oxygen support.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has set up two 1,000-bed facilities at BKC. The MMRDA handed the two facilities to the BMC.
