Resident doctors in Mumbai have once again raised the weapon of indefinite strike. Many demands of Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) doctors have not been fulfilled yet, therefore, they have decided to call an indefinite strike from February 7.

What are their demands?

The demands such as salary hike, pending allowances, condition of hostels are not being met by the government despite constant follow-up.

Resident doctors' association said that the government's attitude towards the demands of resident doctors is very indifferent. Demands of doctors are not taken seriously by the government. Resident doctors from all government colleges of the state will participate in this strike.

Government promises only on paper

Due to the increasing number of students from abroad, the hostels in every medical college are running short of space. The number of students has increased but the accommodation facilities have not increased. Therefore, MARD is repeatedly demanding to increase the number of hostels. But the government is not taking any concrete measures beyond just giving assurances. Apart from this, tuition fees are also not received on time. Often the tuition fees are kept pending for a few months.

Resident doctors have been putting their demands before the government for some time now. Resident doctors also went on strike in January 2023 for various demands. At that time, the strike was called off after receiving assurances that all demands would be accepted. But even after a year, no concrete action has been taken by the government. This made the resident doctor agitated.

According to MARD organisation, resident doctors are frequently followed up with college administration and ministry level for their problems.
