Considering the increasing prevalence of Covid-19 in the current situation, the health system of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is ready to prevent this disease and to get proper treatment to the affected patients on time. The health department should be vigilant to ensure that there is no shortage of isolation rooms, beds, oxygen system if needed, doctors, nurses, medicines for patients affected by Covid-19 in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital. The Thane Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has directed the concerned department to increase the number of antigen tests in public places as well as crowded places such as markets and railway stations.


85 patients found to be Covid infected in Thane municipal area

In order to prevent Covid-19, daily covid tests have been started at all civic health centres of the civic body and 85 patients have been found to be infected with Covid in Thane municipal limits between 1st and 16th March 2023. Out of them, 80 active patients are under home quarantine, three patients are undergoing treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital and two patients are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. It was also said that the symptoms of the patients who are under home quarantine are mild.


15-bed isolation made ready for patients at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital
A 15-bed isolation ward has been prepared at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital for patients who have only one toilet at home and no separate accommodation. So five beds are kept for the ICU. If the number of patients increases, then arrangements of beds, isolation arrangements should be made immediately, daily tests should be increased to 2,500, and RT-PCR tests should also be continued effectively, said Bangar. 

Set up help desk
In order to avoid any inconvenience to the patients due to Covid-19, if the patient is found infected after testing at the health centre, 24X7 ambulance should be available to take him to Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital for treatment, help desk should be set up to inform the relatives of the patient after admission. In the future, the number of antigen tests will be increased and the number of antigen kits should also be increased accordingly, the tender process should be completed on a priority basis, Commissioner added. 


Set up Dialysis machine
The commissioner also mentioned that as a matter of urgency, cash of up to INR 1 lakh should be made available under the authority of the Superintendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital so that no problem would arise. If any of the Covid-19 patients require dialysis, the facilities of the dialysis machine should be provided in the hospital. Also instructions were given in this meeting that the dialysis machine at the parking plaza should be shifted to Kalwa Hospital.


Beware of H3N2 Virus
Six patients of H3N2 influenza have also been found, with symptoms similar to Covid-19 such as sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, fever, fatigue, and if such symptoms are found, the concerned person should contact the nearest health centre and get the necessary tests done, said Bangar.


A pathology lab should be set up
After the patients are admitted for treatment of Covid-19, an up-to-date pathology lab should be set up in the hospital to carry out their necessary tests and take immediate action so that all the tests will be done through it.


The number of tests should be increased in Mumbra- Kharegaon
Kharegaon division has 15 and Mumbra division has 10 Covid-affected patients. In this background, Commissioner Bangar also instructed to increase the number of tests so that the maximum number of citizens will be tested in both departments.
