The serosurvey that has been commissioned by the BMC, NITI- Aayog and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) has shown that people in the 41-60 age group are the most exposed to the coronavirus in both slums and non-slums.

Moreover, the findings published by the TIFR showcases that of the 1,060 people aged 41-60 years surveyed in slums, 50.3 per cent tested positive for antibodies against the coronavirus whereas of 964 people in the same age bracket surveyed in non-slums, 18.6 per cent tested positive. This age group also steps out of the house more for work putting them at higher risk of exposure to the contagious disease.

Earlier, in the first phase of the survey, 57 per cent of the samples showed that the people from the slums and 16 per cent from the non-slum areas had antibodies against the virus. This was different in comparison to the second survey where the officials found an increase in the number of antibodies in people from the non-slum pockets, but the figures had dropped for the samples tested from the slums.

Meanwhile, on Monday, October 5, Maharashtra recorded 10,244 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the state's COVID-19 tally to 14,53,653. Currently, there are 2,52,277 active cases in the state. With 12,982 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 11,62,585.
