As the seven hills hospital in Andheri is closed as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed its admin office, Housing State Minister Ravindra Waikar along with BMC’s Commissioner on Wednesday decided to take possession of the land and start a cancer hospital. The land where the seven hills hospital is built belongs to the BMC.

Waikar was speaking in a program organised at Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Municipal Hospital on Thursday. TATA cancer hospital is the sole hospital in Mumbai for cancer patients and it is under a lot of stress due to a huge crowd. As the seven-hospital is closed, the BMC can utilise the space to start a cancer hospital in the suburbs which would benefit the people of the state, Waikar expressed.

Taking about increasing facilities in the Trauma Hospital as it is the prime hospital for people living in Mumbai’s suburbs, Waiker said that discussions with BMC’s Commissioner to recruit doctors and initiate several departments - including Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Dialysis Center, Cardiologist Department, Pediatric Ward, Occupational and Physical Therapy (O.T.P.T) Department, Neurology Department and other departments – has been done and the proposal for the same is being prepared for its approval. The additional commissioner of the BMC has asked to send the proposal.
