In a recent development, the 'Modi Sarkar' decided to take care of the finances by unveiling ‘Modi Care’ scheme. With this scheme, it is said that around 10 crore families will be insured for ₹5 lakhs and around 1,352 types of surgeries and tests will now be capped at a price.

Usually, heart transplant, angioplasty requires a minimum of ₹3-5 lakhs but with this said scheme, hospitals will charge only ₹40,000 to place a stent and ₹1.10 lakh to perform bypass surgery. Further, doctors today charge double fees to carry out knee replacement. However, with the help of this scheme, the central government has capped the price at ₹90,000, which will help poor patients in regards to knee replacement surgery.

The scheme which was launched under National Health Protection Scheme has made it mandatory for some hospitals to provide healthcare facilities at affordable rates. In order to be a part of the scheme, hospitals will have to register with central agencies to avail the facilities.

Private hospitals which join the scheme will receive 30 per cent incentive. Also, NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) approved hospitals will receive 10 per cent higher than the ones fixed for various projects.

I welcome this scheme as hospitals now will be able to provide affordable treatment to poor patients. However, the same would be difficult for private hospitals where the machinery is expensive,” Dr Vijay Surase, Cardiologist.
