The railway authorities have formed 12 teams to carry out the structural audits of 445 bridges across the city

Andheri Bridge Accident: Asmita Katkar slips into coma; injured Manoj Mehta successfully operated for spinal injuries

July 3, 2018, was an unfateful day for Mumbaikars when a part of the Gokhale bridge at Andheri Railway station fell on the railway track. The accident injured five people of which Asmita Katkar's is reported to be in a coma while Manoj Mehta is said to be out of danger. Katkar's treatment is ongoing in Cooper Hospital while Manoj, who had suffered from spinal cord injury was successfully operated on Friday.

Along with Manoj (52) and Asmita (36), Dwarka Prasad Sharma (47) and Giridhar Singh (40) too sustained injuries during the accident. Manoj Mehta suffered injuries to his right shoulder, chest and lower waist.

Post the accident, all the injured were shifted to Cooper hospital, except Mehta and another injured Harish who were admitted to Nanavati Hospital. Harish too had suffered grave injuries and was operated on Friday. Now, he has been shifted to the general ward while Manoj is kept under observation.

After the incident, the authorities have formed 12 teams to conduct the structural audits of 445 bridges across the city. The teams consist of engineers from IIT-Bombay, Railways and BMC.
