With the infections Delta Plus variant of coronavirus infiltration the state, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has informed that 21 patients of the Delta Plus variant have been found in Maharashtra as of now.

Moreover, two patients have reportedly been cured as well. In Mumbai, Delta Plus variant cases were found on April 5 and April 15 which means the variant has been lurking for more than two months in the city.

In view of the situation, on Tuesday, June 22, the Union ministry of health and family welfare, in a statement, called the variant “a variant of concern”. Furthermore, the ministry cited an analysis by a consortium of genomic sequencing labs that purportedly found the mutated virus to spread more readily. Addressing a press conference earlier that day, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had called Delta Plus a “variant of interest” (VoI), implying that it is being studied.

On the other hand, with the ongoing pandemic ruffling the states of India, the country has so far reported 40 cases of the Delta Plus variant of the novel coronavirus.

Moreover, most of these cases are reported from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In addition, in recent developments, the Goa government has currently increased surveillance along the border adjoining Maharashtra in the view of the neighbouring state reporting cases of the COVID-19 'Delta Plus' variant, which is considered highly infectious.
