The urban areas of Maharashtra have been witnessing a rise in the cases of coronavirus, more so than the rural areas.

As per reports, the caseload share of the urban parts of the state has risen to 57.98 per cent on October 18 from 51.6 per cent, just a month back. The urban areas which are governed by 27 municipal corporations, recorded a major share of the caseload since the first case of the coronavirus was registered in the state on March 9.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, October 18, Maharashtra recorded 9,060 cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally of the state to 15.95 lakhs. However, the death toll crossed the 42,000 mark even though the recovery rate increased to 85.86 per cent. On the other hand, Mumbai reported 1,600 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally to 2.41 lakh whereas the active cases stand at 18,062. However, amidst the pandemic, metro service on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) corridor is to finally resume today.

On Sunday, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan after being asked quite a few times over the last many months admitted that India is in the community transmission stage. However, he added that it is limited only to certain districts and states.
